Boston Marathon Weather

The Boston Marathon experiences a wide range of weather conditions on race day. The marathon takes place in mid-April, right on the cusp of spring in New England, which means that the weather during the marathon can be quite unpredictable, with significant variations from year to year.

On average, race day temperatures in Boston range from the low 40s to the mid-50s Fahrenheit (5-12 degrees Celsius). However, it is not uncommon for temperatures to be much colder or hotter. Runners have encountered everything from near freezing rain showers (as in 2018) to oppressive heatwaves (like in 2012) during the race. The event has also seen instances of strong winds, with gusts that can either aid or challenge runners on the point-to-point course.
